Kaolin clay pipes
From the 1600s until the early 1900s, most people consumed tobacco using white kaolin clay pipes. Ranging in style from plain, single-use items to elaborate keepsakes, pipes are a common find at 19th century archaeological sites.
Who would have owned them: Tobacco consumption was common practice across the population. Both enslaved peoples and slaveowners alike would have used these disposable-style kaolin pipes.
